I’m Colin McLaren, a signalling design engineer with over 26 years’ experience working within the UK rail industry. I specialise in the design, verification, and assurance of safety-critical signalling systems, including work as a Contractors Responsible Engineer. Alongside my professional work, I have a long-standing habit of building and experimenting with systems simply because they are interesting — or because something doesn’t quite work as well as it should. This site brings both strands together: formal railway projects, and personal experiments driven by curiosity rather than necessity.
